Plate Icon to Guide Americans to Healthier Eating
 

 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) unveiled on Thursday a new simple food plate icon, to take the place of the food pyramid. MyPlate is designed to remind Americans to adopt healthier eating habits, in a time when more than one-third of children and more than two-thirds of adults in the U.S. are overweight or obese.

According to the USDA, one half of your plate should be filled with fruits and vegetables, and with whole grains and lean protein on the other half. Low-fat dairy, such as a cup of skim milk or yogurt on the side is also suggested.
